Global Telecom Business Award, a prestigious global award for the most innovative projects in the past year was awarded in London to Vipnet and Ericsson Nikola Tesla for the implementation of the Ericsson’s PSI system, an energy-saving solution for base stations. This is one of environmentally friendly solutions that Vipnet has applied to its business, thus significantly reducing its environmental impact.

Global Telecom Business Innovation Awards 2014Vipnet and Ericsson Nikola Tesla won a prestigious award for green business in the Wireless Network Structure Innovation category at the Global Telecom Business Awards 2014 ceremony held in London yesterday. The award was received jointly by Dubravka Jusić, Corporate Communications Director at Vipnet, Tomislav Makar, Access & Transport Network Development Director at Vipnet and Miroslav Kantolić, Marketing & Sales Director for Vipnet at Ericsson Nikola Tesla.

„This is our third GTB award and that makes us a true precedent in the industry. We receive this award with special pleasure because it represents an international recognition of our efforts to run business in an innovative and environmentally friendly way. This is also substantiated with out corporate social responsibility program „Do the Right Thing“ but also with the implementation of the most recent technological solutions. A year ago, Vipnet was the first to initiate the project of implementing LTE Advenced speed up to 300 Mbit/s in its own network, which also represents a significant energetic challenge. Also, I want to congratulate and give thanks to Ericsson Nikola Tesla, our long-term partner, for the cooperation in this project“, stated Mladen Pejković, Vipnet's CEO.

Other than that, Vipnet was the first company in Europe and among the first in the world to implement the Ericsson’s PSI system, which was done in nine locations at the Adriatic coast. That ensured 3G coverage at locations which, especially during summer tourist season, record a significant growth in data traffic. Vipnet’s network includes 50 transmitters and 16 base stations which use renewable resources to generate electricity. Two years ago, Vipnet and KONČAR won the GTB award for the project of implementation of hybrid base stations powered by renewable energy sources and using fuel cells for the first time in the electrical energy generation, together with the sun and wind energy.

Gordana Kovačević, MSc, President of Ericsson Nikola Tesla stated on the occasion that Ericsson and Ericsson Nikola Tesla have been sharing for years a vision of the Networked Society in which a responsible use of modern ICT solutions has a positive effect on society, both in terms of the improved and more efficient economy and the impact on the environment. „Ericsson’s PSI system is only one of the globally recognised solutions with which we contribute to the betterment of society whilst maintaining the highest quality of service to our customers. Along with the implementation of this type of solutions, Ericsson Nikola Tesla also offers a series of other solutions created by innovativeness of our employees, ranging from e-healthcare to various e-services that will make life easier for citizens and, simultaneously, have a positive impact on the environment. We are proud because this award testifies that, along with our long-term partner Vipnet, we are recognised as innovative companies that promote and realise green business through concrete projects.”

Vipnet’s green activities

Vipnet’s employees actively engage in environmental protection activities and the environmental responsibility also extends to Vipnet’s offer to use electronic invoicing instead of paper, its offer of environmentally friendly devices and the repurchase and recycling of used mobile devices.
