The biggest non-commercial technological convention in the region, which is traditionally held in Opatija, was officially opened on May 28, with a current panel discussion on topic “Education for the 21st century“, during which, respectable businessmen and meritorious participants from the educational system, shared their thoughts, experiences and suggestions.

 

Although the discussion on the education system (un) coordination with the needs of the society as a whole presented  the various points of view made by the distinguished businessmen and participants form the scientific and educational institutions, they all agreed that our educational system needs a major turning point, shifting focus form memorizing to creating. Vedran Mornar, the President of MIPRO,  Saša Zelenika, Deputy Minister of Science, Education and Sports, Gordana Kovačević, President of Ericsson Nikola Tesla,  Ivan Vidaković, Head of  Microsoft Craotia,  Darinko Bago, President of Končar,  Slavko Vidović, Founder and Director of Infodoma and Petar Biljanović, President of MIPRO Program Committee, shared their thoughts and experiences from practice. During the discussion, the audience addressed the panelists with several interesting questions and remarks, and the comment made by Ericsson Nikola Tesla President, who stated that it is not good to constantly think about what needs to be done, and at the same time, not doing it, was awarded by the audience’s applause.

During the protocol opening ceremony, awards and recognitions were granted, and the MIPRO Charter for exceptional long-term contribution to development of ICT, electronics and microelectronics, as well as promoting the ideas and thoughts of MIPRO, was this year awarded to Gordana Kovačević.  Out of almost four hundred papers from twenty countries, among only three awarded papers, the work of our experts  Damir Medved  and Saša Vojvodić, in cooperation with Saša Drezgić from the Faculty of Economics in Rijeka, was singled out, under the title “The use of advanced information systems in the context of  accelerating the development of feasibility studies for the needs of constructing broadband infrastructure in the Republic of Croatia“.

Despite of the visible, recession reduced number of participants at the opening day, ten scientific and expert consultations, a total of six round tables, three seminars, workshops, presentations and many other content, with the attendance of the distinguished international guests, for the 37th times in a row, confirmed  the true legitimacy of MIPRO, as a bond between economy and science, and as an important ICT development factor,  in this part of Europe.
