Ericsson Nikola Tesla - First authorized economic operator with the AEOF certificate in Croatia

  Categories: Investors Recognitions

Ericsson Nikola Tesla is the first and only holder of the status of an authorized economic operator for customs simplifications/safety and security - AOEF certificate - in Croatia. AEOF certificate allows the company to be recognized as a reliable partner in the area of safety and security as a part of the Mutual Recognition Agreement that the European Union has signed with a number of countries in order to secure their supply chains, which ultimately contributes to safer and faster exchange of goods on a global scale.

With the Croatian accession to the European Union, Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance started applying the concept of Authorized Economic Operator - AEO. The concept was introduced as one of the key amendments to the Community Customs Code related to the safety of movement of goods.

AEO certificate is issued to an economic operator from the EU that meets criteria with regard to compliance with customs regulations, appropriate standards of record keeping, financial solvency and safety and security standards. In the context of the AEO system, entrepreneurs can obtain one of three confirmations on the status of authorized economic operator which provide them with easier access to customs simplifications and exemptions relating to security and safety measures. AEOC certificate “Customs simplifications” is issued to an economic operator from the EU that meets criteria of compliance with customs regulations, applicable standards of record keeping and financial solvency. AEOS certificate of safety and security is issued to an economic operator from the EU that meets criteria of compliance with customs regulations, financial solvency and adequate standards of safety and security. The same conditions should be met by companies which want AEOF certificate that will bring them all privileges available to an authorized economic operator.
Ericsson Nikola Tesla was part of a pilot project to introduce AEO institute in Croatia in the pre-accession period during which, in cooperation with the Croatian Customs, the company successfully demonstrated business processes to the European Commission and partners from the United States Customs.

AEO institute is being applied in the European Union since early 2008, and with the Croatian accession to the European Union, Customs Administration began the process of its implementation in Ericsson Nikola Tesla. It is important to note that companies which achieve the status of authorized economic operator at the EU level are considered reliable enough to carry out procedures related to customs, and are entitled to some important benefits. To mention just a few: fewer physical as well as documentary controls, priority treatment in case of selection for the control, the ability to request a specific place for such control, etc. Though economic operators are not obliged to request the status of authorized economic operator, the acquisition of AEO status is extremely important because it provides numerous benefits for simplification of business operations. During the complex process of approval, Ericsson Nikola Tesla has met all criteria related to compliance with customs regulations, appropriate standards of record keeping, financial solvency and compliance with the relevant standards of safety and security. Ericsson Nikola Tesla is the first and only holder of the status of an authorized economic operator for customs simplifications/safety and security - AOEF certificate - in Croatia.

We hope that this successful certification of Ericsson Nikola Tesla will encourage other Croatian companies to put more effort into getting this important status - it will help them facilitate operations and improve their competitiveness on the demanding EU market. Most notably, AEOF certificate allows the company to be recognized as a reliable partner in the area of safety and security as a part of the Mutual Recognition Agreement that the European Union has signed with a number of countries in order to secure their supply chains, which ultimately contributes to safer and faster exchange of goods on a global scale.

Gordana Kovačević, president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla did not hide her satisfaction while gaining yet another of valuable certificates. "Ericsson Nikola Tesla has been one of the leading exporters in the country for many years, primarily regarding knowledge export. Its long-term growth and development is based on a clear vision, mission and strategy that include ongoing adaptation and improvement of business processes and activities in the company. We collaborate on a daily basis with numerous domestic and foreign customers and partners. That is often associated with complicated customs procedures. New and sustainable requirements that we had to fully adopt are arising from the need for increased safety and aim for more effective protection of the global supply chain, from manufacturer to end customer. AEOF certificate is important because it will help us shorten the time for completion of customs formalities, reduce the risk and costs, and increase efficiency and reliability. For us and our customers, it is an additional value because our products will be delivered faster and easier. At the same time, I want to thank the Customs Administration on proactive engagement and helpfulness during cooperation in this important European project, "said the president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla.
