From September 17 to 19, the 22th International Scientific Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks, SoftCOM 2014, was held in Split. The conference brought together scientists and experts from around the world with reported 159 works by authors from 30 countries. This year the technical sponsor of the SoftCOM conference was the most influential worldwide association for the promotion of scientific and professional work in the field of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science - IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), headquartered in New York City.

At the opening ceremony on September 17, conference participants and guests were welcomed on behalf of the organizers by Prof. Dinko Begušić, PhD. The distinguished gathering was also addressed by Assoc. Prof. Srdjan Podrug PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Prof. Tomislav Kilic PhD, Vice-Chancellor of the University Of Split, MSc. Gordana Kovačević, president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, director of regulatory agency HAKOM, Mario Weber PhD, Sinisa Krajnović, vice president and head of Ericsson Radio Research and Development unit, as well as representatives of the City of Split and Split-Dalmatia County. Then the letter of support from the Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Mornar PhD was read.

Gordana Kovačević spoke about Ericsson's vision of network society that empowers people and business to achieve their full potential. In its realization, important role have research and development, and the organizers of this event are true partners with whom the company has for many years cooperated. Ericsson Nikola Tesla marks this year the 65th anniversary and since the very beginning has had successful cooperation with Ericsson. The company in its work, besides this cooperation, practices continuous learning and teamwork, resulting in new achievements.

Sinisa Krajnović pointed out that in the future economy, based on knowledge, for the Company's success is crucial to define and ensure the competitiveness based on the unique advantages. Competitiveness, based on knowledge, and close cooperation of industry with the scientific and academic community, are key factors for success in today's competitive global market.

Beside the scientific part of the conference, a workshop was held on issues in the field of ICT as well as the Economic Forum. As part of the integrated program, a total of 138 presentations on scientific papers and articles were held.

Workshop on software engineering in practice was organized by Darko Huljenić PhD of Ericsson Nikola Tesla. The main theme was the application of new methods of software engineering in development of communications software. By bringing together researchers and representatives of the leading companies in the communications software, a new impulse was given for cooperation in this important area. Workshop related to innovation in the ICT sector was organized in cooperation with the Office for Technology Transfer at the University of Split. Representatives of academic institutions, leading ICT companies including Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Deutsche Telekom, European Institute of Technology ICT Labs and BICRO-CASB agencies discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the development of innovation ecosystem and supporting the innovations in the ICT. As part of the special workshop, there was a presentation of student projects developed within the student summer camp, held in Ericsson Nikola Tesla in cooperation with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture. The workshop was organized by the project manager Saša Dešić PhD from Ericsson Nikola Tesla.
