ICT - A key for development of the Croatian economy

On Thursday, November 27, in Osijek was held first ICT Summit organized by the Ministry of Economy in cooperation with CEA – ICT Association and Competitiveness Cluster for the ICT industry.

Damir Medved, Ericsson Nikola Tesla expert participated in the panel dedicated to continental tourism.


Conference entitled "ICT – A key for development of the Croatian economy" was opened by Minister of Economy Ivan Vrdoljak. He said that the main message of the Summit is the implementation of the Industrial Strategy of the Republic of Croatia and horizontal links between industries, as well as connecting the public and the ICT sector. He stressed that today there is no industry that can grow without the support of the ICT sector, and this sector with its technological solutions contributes to the competitiveness of other sectors of the economy. Regarding Croatia’s Industrial strategy, he highlighted the ICT sector as one of four strategic industries, which in times of crisis grew, employed and exported. By connecting to the ICT sector and with rational utilization of raw material resources, other industries, such as wood and food processing, can become strategic and generate growth.

Hrvoje StrepačkiIntroductory lecture on cluster competitiveness and cooperation among industries was held by Hrvoje Strepački, representative of ETK in the Competitiveness Cluster for the ICT industry, and its president, said: "The idea of the gathering was to open a cross-sectoral dialogue, i.e. to show how vertical industries can benefit from ICT as horizontal industry. Since we were in Slavonia, the focus was on the food processing industry, wood processing industry and continental tourism. Our intention is that these kinds of meetings continue in other regions and towards other strategic industries." Since the ICT Summit coincided with the marking of 65 years of successful business of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, Vedran Kružić, Deputy Minister of Economy, on behalf of Ministry of Economy, congratulated the company its 65th anniversary and expressed regret that the president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla could not attend the Summit. More than 300 people participated and it created a lot of interest.
