Ericsson Nikola Tesla contracted new mobile network and content delivery network for Rostelecom

Rostelecom, the country’s fourth-largest national operator with a presence in all Russian regions, and a longtime partner of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, part of the Ericsson Group, has recently chosen this Croatian company for equipment delivery of a new cutting edge Mobile and Content Delivery Networks. With the new mobile network Rostelecom will become converged operator having the biggest area coverage and customer reach in Russia and a unique market position in offering customers a full range of converged information and telecommunications services in mobile and fixed networks across the Russian Federation.

 

The new Rostelecom network, built with Ericsson equipment, will cover more than 60% of 143 million people living in Russia, including biggest Russian cities – Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg and others.

 

Ericsson Nikola Tesla, part of the Ericsson Group, will deliver the equipment for new Rostelecom 2G and 3G networks, including a multi-standard RBS 6000 radio base stations, circuit and packet switched networks with Evolved Packet Core and Operation Support Systems (OSS) as well.

 

The RBS 6000 is a multi-standard radio base station which supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE, providing a cost-effective deployment for the next-generation of high-speed mobile broadband, video, and web application services, while providing subscribers with a superior user experience.

 

The deployment of the multi-standard RBS 6000 radio base stations has already started and it is expected that by the end of the year the new equipment will be installed in more than 4000 locations across the Russian Federation.

 

In order to further strengthen its unique market position, Rostelecom has started deployment of media delivery network solution based on Ericsson Media Delivery Network (MDN) for which Ericson Nikola Tesla will deliver equipment, which is based on latest generation of software and hardware platforms used for content delivery across mobile and fixed networks.

The signed contracts are the biggest ones that Ericsson Nikola Tesla has signed during the last several years.
